Limiting only goes so far. The more complex your song is, the more you make things modulate, the more you will find yourself programming volume of some sort. When things sound interesting, try and listen to subtleties, program volume peeks to bring out appealing sounds and dips to even things out. PeerCtrl is useful here as well. - wizenwet

  REVIEW

.FSM - FSM - FSM.

Date: 2004-01-08 Author: hamsteralliance Viewed 3632 times

This file was a silly 4 in the morning hooverfest that got a bit out of hand...and ended up being an FSM-filled song. A very shitty song, but a song none-the-less.

FINITE STATE MACHINE!
FECES STABBING MONKEY!
FOLDED SOCK MANGLER!
FUCKING SEA MOOMINS!

This file is all about the FSM Machines. Kick XP and Infector are in my opinion two of the strongest sounds in Buzz, alongside LD's Padsyn and HD's Genstation series.

The FSM Infector is a chameleon...it can be nearly anything. Works great, has all the basic functions, two LFO's, various Modes and a wonderful array of quality filters.
Any time I've sat down to try emulating a piece of hardware, after examining the specifications of the synth, the FSM Infector has had just the right stuff.

In this tutorial/demo I've set up a "Hoover". a Hoover is a patch from a Roland Juno series synthesizer. I have an Alpha Juno 2. ($100-$200).

I have attempted this sound before, but it didn't really work out that well, as I never knew what a Juno had in it. Now that I know I feel the sound is much better. :]

-----------

Gerry(quartz76) has made some great Pad's with the FSM Infector which emulate a Roland JP8080 string patch. I've turned up the sub-osc in this file and replaced the HD ch0rd (chorus) and HD g00d (delay) with FSM ones.

----------

The FSM Kick XP has also been used several times in this review. You'll notice it's Grey skin if you have Skins enabled, I've also Suffixed all the renamed KickXP's with XP.

Note: I accidentally left the temporary loop point in the center of the song. Just move it to where the end loop is at the bottom.

The song starts off silly gabba-esque and then mellows out into something else. ;] 2004-01-08 by hamsteralliance

Nice, the hoover is great. And the KickXP Arp is cool.  2004-01-08 by Xenobi0z

Badass Hoover indeed! Excellent improvement on the past one you made (Hoover 1 was the file name, I believe). This one is a hell of a lot more in your face, seems to flow better at faster tempos, and definitely better quality in terms of tone. Great job on everything in the file, "only 14 kb zipped!" Also, you should sample the Juno 2 and give us an mp3 to compare. 2004-01-09 by Solarian

Thanks! :P and Here's an Mp3 for those unfortunate enough to not be able to get it to play: Hamst3r - Hooverfiesta.mp3 (right click, Save as). :] 2004-01-09 by hamsteralliance

oh man...that was crazy.

crazy like a genius.
great sounds, and even better pattern names. that's a whole other arena of creativity i hadn't even considered... 2004-01-25 by juvenilecokefiend

I've updated the hoover. you can fix it on your own:

Replace the "UndrCTRL" with a Pampurfe. set the pampurfe to Tube Sym. no gain. the tone amount to 16 percent and the tone frequency to 8000 hz.

That should be it. I noticed the HD Stereo saturation was sucking out all the bass and it was a little bit too bright, it sounded too raw. so that little adjustment might help you out. :] 2004-01-25 by hamsteralliance

Here's a BMX of just the Hoover alone with the fix: Download THA-Hoover.zip 2004-01-25 by hamsteralliance
