In short, this machine is used to control other machines. This is done by creating a pattern for the C1 and assigning the columns of the pattern to the parameters of other machines in the edit window (rightclick on C1 and hit "Edit")
For example when you want to control a bass3 with the C1, insert the C1 as you do with a regular generator. Don't try to connect the C1 to the master. Insert the bass3 and connect it to the master. Then go to the pattern editor to insert notes in the pattern of the C1 (that is in the first column). Dont forget (!), beside every note, in the second row, the "wavenumber" row, add the number of the machine you want to control. It is set to 01 default, but when you want to control the bass3 you just added, change it to A0.
In the edit window, the machine and the corresponding wavenumber are to be listed in the leftmost column. This can be set and changed by selecting the checkbox "note" in the upper row of the editwindow, and then selecting the "t-note" of the machine you want to assign the current wavenumber to. (of course when you only have the bass3 in your machine setup, you'll have to add a second machine to be able to assign different values to different machines).
The numbers of the machines start at A0, since the earlier values (00-9F) are used later on to assign the notes of the C1 pattern to waves from the wavetable. So yes, the notes can be assigned to machines as well as to samples, with the same column. In this case, the bass3 is the first machine you added, so logically you might want to give it the number A0.. then the rows in the C1 pattern should look like:
C-4 A0 .. .. .. .. ..
Now when you enter the C1 pattern in the sequence editor and you press play, you should be able to hear the bass3 playing.
If you want to control other parameters (of for example the cutoff from the bass3) with the C1, you can add values to the A1-4 columns in the C1 pattern. For example add some values like 30-70 in the A1-column. Assign this values to the bass3 cutoff by selecting the A1 checkbox in the edit window of the C1, and clicking the bass3-->cutoff.
(Watch out: keep A0 selected in the leftmost column, only change the checkbox from "Note" to "A1")
Now you will hear that your notes are filtered with different cutoff values as soon as you hit play.

| Thanks for explaining this useful machine!
I have not been able to get it to work with some generators, however. The M4 wouldn't work with it, and I think a few others. Anyone checked out which ones work and which ones won't?
Peace,

| what i was always asking myself is if it is possible to handle the c1 that way that the nots i enter are played. when i enter a note into the a pattern of the c1 the wavenumber automatically changes to 01 and there is nothing than silence. so is it possible that the wavenumber doesnt automatically change to '01' when entering a new note? or to say it more clearly: is there a possibility to listen to the notes i enter? 2001-05-30 by moon.god |

| Moongod, I tried to get the result you are talking about. Normally, when you once change the wavenumber in the pattern manually, the drop-down box changes to that wavenumber and will use that one untill you select another. But since buzz only displays the used wavetable slots in that drop-down box, and you normally won't have any wave loaded in the wavetable at position A0, buzz will not jump to that position automatically. The trick is loading a (short) wave into slot A0. Then you press alt+W and select it, and hear your notes played as you enter them in the pattern :-) 2001-05-30 by Thevider |

| thevider: thx for the explanation! this was _exactly_ what i didnt get until now. great! so now i could use buzz also for nice polyphonies without using that sucking try and error method.. ;) 2001-05-31 by moon.god |
