Date: 2003-01-19 Author: oomek Viewed 4220 times

Below some snipets of upcoming "Nine-o" a 909 clone but with more tweaks.

Simple BDrum Rim and Clap
Tweaked Clap

No samples was used !! pure synthesis.

Only Hihat, Crash & Ride will be sample based.

This project is at early stage so dont ask when.
Cheers

Wow, sounds great Oomek! I heard you talking about it on #buzz, but didn't know you were making it with pure synthesis only. (Btw, I removed the first review with the errors...) 2003-01-19 by mva

nice sound! just a quick question... how are you going to get past the problems routs 909 had?, i.e. roland saying you cant distribute it? 2003-01-19 by supafunk

Man, this is gonna be a hot thing... Great! Can't wait to get my hands on it! ;-) 2003-01-19 by skizzo

If it does not use any samples and it isn't named TR-909 then I guess Roland can't probably do much. I doubt they could patent the pricible of oscillator or something... [I once heard something like that could be possible in france though, but that's a different story (and it was a R-C circuit they patented).] 2003-01-19 by Elektroj?nis

And hey... It really sounds great... Better really than any nonprocessed set of 909 samples that I've heard. 2003-01-19 by Elektroj?nis

I really liked your old dll's: http://users.pandora.be/h.u.n.t.e.r/temp/buzz/excitergrr.jpg :) where's the time :) 2003-01-19 by h.u.n.t.e.r (be)

As i said it will include samples but only Ride, Cymbal & Hihats. 909 works in the same way. But Nine-o will emulate Overtweaked 909 to generate sounds that 909 can't do (like intensity of clap for example, more will come).  2003-01-19 by oomek

Duh... I should read stuff more carefully... 2003-01-19 by Elektroj?nis

looking forward to this -- I don't use the 909 or 808 as it stands, because they can be unstable on my system, and I find their interfaces rather awkward. also, the sound can't be tweaked enough. 2003-01-19 by kmkrebs

this will sound crazy, but have you tried using a samplingrate reducer on the hihat samples? i did a little test once, and i found that since the 909 hats are lower sampling rate (6bit 22khz compressed or something?) i got a more convincing sound by using downsampling before the envelopes! might be interesting as an internal switch (like, a n optional bit reducer before the envelope stage..) i once found some good circuit diagrams, quick google search shows: http://www.colinfraser.com/tr909/my909.htm http://hardware.freepage.de/cgi-bin/feets/freepage_ext/41030x030A/rewrite/raf909/circuit.htm looking forward to it oomek! 2003-01-19 by nuclear

i v'e got whole schematic, and original 6bit 22khz samples from 909 rom. And Yes, their dynamic is compressed to avoid noise.  2003-01-19 by oomek

I read somewhere that they used some kind of primitive timestreching in the decay controls of those cymbals for different cymbal tunings (and was it different decays too)... Is it true? The document I read did not probably say time streching actually, but it sounded lot like it meant that. 2003-01-19 by Elektroj?nis

Right, Crash & Ride sample position is used to sync VCO position. Sample plyed twice faster has shorter decay time. 2003-01-19 by oomek

Correction... VCA of course :-P 2003-01-19 by oomek

Heh... Maybe you could add that sync to VCO or maybe LFO as an option to your new gen for some freaky forward-backwar-forward effects... And at audio frequencies it would cause some distortion/ringmod/FM style FX... :) 2003-01-20 by Elektroj?nis

You have weird ideas :> I like it ^^ 2003-01-20 by xchaoticx

great idea! btw, does anybody plan to code an 808 clone, cos Rout 808 often hangs?... (sorry if this sounds rather rude from somebody who has no programming skills whatsoever ;-)  2003-01-20 by shitbeat

Sounds Great! how about adding a drive control for the bassdrum, similar to the one on this page: http://www.colinfraser.com/tr909/909mods/909mods.htm 2003-01-20 by jeret

eheh... cool... the master of emulation... with even more emulation!!! :D long life to you, man! 2003-01-22 by DjChihuahua

btw, maybe attack parameters would be fun too... for snares and bd, and revers playback of the samples also... :D imagine :D:D:D 2003-01-22 by DjChihuahua

wow 909 clone thats my favourite drum machine period even the nu ones don,t seem to have the sheen of the 909 can,t wait just make it fat sounding and i,ll be happy  2003-01-30 by boombaxx
