Sure, you want to be able to use alternate time signatures in Buzz. Here is the trick. I set the ticks per beat to 8, providing adequate speed for what I needed. Then I proceeded to set the step to 4 and the pattern length 32. Basically you create an 8 step pattern, and ignore the eighth step. Even in the song view. 7/8 time is pretty cool, and I'm going to try writing a few songs in it if I can master it. The rhythm is 1231212, or :..:.:. if you prefer. Count that in your head as you listen if possible.

| How do u make it repeat the first 4 ticks on the bass machine? Also, what's the step? 2002-08-08 by shinobi |

| Hi guy - nice little demo - if you check the reveiw section you'll find a description of how to do 5/4 7/4 13/4 etc done by ZERO_UNIT - the demo link is prbably dead but I can send you the demos.
Also - try changeing your step in F4 to 56 - it'll be much neater to follow - you'll see what I mean when ya do it.

| Funkee! It's cool to see people going out of the 4/4... Nothings wrong with 4/4 either though. I've been thinking of making some gabber or HC or something like that in 3/4 after hearing one song like that on mp3dotkom... I was way cool... Gabber that swings... 2002-08-08 by Elektroj?nis |

| yeah...alternative time signatures ROK! :)
...but: "set the step to 4 and the pattern length 32. Basically you create an 8 step pattern, and ignore the eighth step"
Why not just create 28/56/112 etc ticks long patterns in the first place? 2002-08-08 by Paul Eye |

| Because I didn't realize that you could do that. I thought it was just the preset lengths that you could do. 2002-08-08 by IntrospectiveJourneys |

| I haven't tried meddling with the ticks per beat yet, but at the moment I'm trying to compose a 4/4 song with a 7/8 break pattern that is intended to shock the listener into attention as the song moves on to its most melodical part. This is also an exercise in drum programming since I intend to kill all instruments except the background hums and the drums when the song reaches that part.
As for 7/8 tunes, you can get some good ideas of what can be done by listening to Venetian Snares or Abelcain. 2002-08-13 by Scinet |

Scinet, i did something like that. a tip for easy composition...compose it with 4 rows step pattern in your sequence editor, so you don't have to keep switching between 16 rows and 28.
If you care, you can listen to the song (ECT) atthis site. Let me know when yours is done and released...

| Help, I'm stuck in Scream Tracker mode! :) I don't use 16-step or so patterns, but 64-step ones, which I cut to 56 steps at the begginning of the break pattern. It seems to work since the break pattern is about 4 64-step patterns long, so even if I keep my sequencer monitor at 64 steps, the song's structure makes sense. I hope I'll be able to finish the song in the next two weeks. 2002-08-20 by Scinet |
