Farbrausch V2 - a look inside
This synth created by Tammo "kb" Hinrichs of Farbrausch is wonderful ! What an innovation!
It works slightly different than most buzz machines. It comes in a vsti and buzzmachine format. It can also make winamp files that will play via a special in_v2m.dll winamp plugin. You will also need a file called v2edit.dle in your gear/gen directory.
There is one master v2 machine (NOT the master default of buzz). All other v2 machines added are slaves. Only the master can have effects chained after it. The slaves just need to be connected to the master to produce sound. See the machine editor screenshot down below for details.
Some features -
Three oscialltors with individual transpose, volume, and detune
Global parameters - reverb, stereo delay, filter, sum compressor
So many patch effects and tweaks your eyes will spin in their sockets
- panning
- transpose
- 2vcf filters - lp, hp, bp, notch, all
- single, serial, or parallel filtering with balance
- distortion in 8 modes
- ADSR envelopes
- LFOS
- Compressor
- Assingable Polyphony
There are track commands like volume, breath, mod, and many assignable ones as well
What are its advantages?
It is so lush
It is so, so, so low on cpu - this will interest you buzzers using dinosaur computers
It does great drum sounds as well as great instruments of all kinds
If you use 1 track (voice) or 6 tracks there is no cpu increase
The lfos - modulations are wild and diverse :D
Multiple levels of detune
Phat filters too
Sounds are organic, elegent, and unique
From octaves 2 through 8 - it sounds even and full
Controller number (=track commands)
01 - modulation
02 - breath
07 - channel volume (use this one for programming fade ins/outs)
*You can assign other controllers in the modulation screen on the instrument editor.
I really like this synth. Please add your comments, this is a very deep and complex synth. If you haven't tried it yet .. what you waiting for ?
Check out the bmw files i included in the download pack. Mostly from buzzmusic, thanks to thoke, engine, and mapilo for the help with the files.
You will notice there are NO samples included in any of these files, all bmw, and all drums produced by farbrausch v2 :)
Read the reviews of this synth here - Review
See a screenshot here - Machine Editor Screenshot
(This explains what i mean about master and slave - notice only the v2 machine not v3, v4, etc are active and can be modified by effects)
Its GUI - Controls
Enjoy buzz ! Big thanks kb - Tammo !
ps ... Haven't done much with the vst verion yet, but this post might help - MsgBoardLnk
ps2 ... Browse the README.txt in the download pack from buzzmachines and manually unzip and place - remember 3 versions - buzz, vsti, winamp :)

nice review, but I feel that I should point out that you are a bit missguided about the low CPU thing. While the synth DOES have a small effect on CPU when running on a nice system, I believe some p4 optimizations are needed to run it at all (SSE3 etc). On my p2 400mz laptop, I ether get huge noise bursts, small blip bursts, or - my favorite - a super-combo-burst! This is followed by massive CPU consumption, which even manages to slow down my mouse. Ouch! 2005-04-13 by wizenwet (Voted 10 for this review!)

is that right ? anyone else can confirm what wizenwet has said, cause its news to me ... but i have a good comp. 2.8ghz 2005-04-23 by noolout (Voted 5 for this review!)

Well, I?ve got a p2 500mHz and I sometimes experience the same problems as wizenwet. But anyway, great machine, r0kz... 2005-04-23 by monotriquez (Voted 10 for this review!)

Yes indeed, this synth is one of the most interesting thing that has happened in the Buzz scene for years! The architecture is heavily based on MIDI (16 channels, controllers etc) BUT I can not get it to work with an external MIDI keyboard. Have anyone else had success in this matter? 2005-06-07 by duz (Voted 8 for this review!)

Wow! I haven't looked at this synth yet but I HAVE heard some of kb's music in some farbrausch demos which I think are amazingly awesome. I think it's great to be able to have an all-maths based piece of music with no samples. Makes for saving space. Can't wait to have a look. 2005-07-01 by fREEZE_dREAM (Voted 10 for this review!)
