Check www.jeskola.com! by mva
Oskari needs a specific harddisk to recover the lost source of Buzz. Everybody should check www.jeskola.com and see if he has the harddisk that is needed.

Trancewede: My deepest apologies for tricking you all, I phoned Ibas and asked them about the price that was listed on their webpage. Apparently the 220$ only cover the analysis of the harddrive. Then, depending on how severly damaged the harddrive is, they charge you for the work they put on recovering. I asked a friend of mine who used Ibas for recovering, and it cost him almost 500$ for recovering a single harddrive. .. So again, sorry all. But I still think it's worth using a professional company like Ibas for recovering the Buzz source code - otherwise we might never see a new build of Buzz, which would be a major let down. :( 2001-06-26

aurora: I really wish you good luck, with your harddrive repairing. another idea: why not making buzz2 'real' shareware and bringing your harddrive to a professional? i think this would be more save. and: it happend to you, it happened to me and i believe it happened to almost all coders, that they lost a lot of coding-work somwhen in their live :(. but this should really happen only one time. 2001-06-25

Frog T: I dunno anything about Oskari's hw repairing abilities, but if there is any doubt about the success of replacing the hdd electronics, imho it doesn't worth the risk to have the source code buried even deeper in that Fireball. I would gladly pay if I knew that my money goes for a work of a hdd expert. But I won't give a buck for Oskari's DIY hdd recovery. Anyway, I hope that he will succeed. Good luck! 2001-06-23

implant: Huh, i can't help... i have only 2gb caviar... why Oskari doesn't have a caviar... buuuu 2001-06-21

trancewede: Gah. This is just like a bad comedy series. I wrote (in January) ... "So, please, Oskari; Contact IBAS in Finland at +358 9 2727 210, pay the 220$ that a single harddrive reconstruction cost - and later try to collect the money from us Buzz-maniacs who like this program very much." .. $220. And it'll almost certainly get repaired. Paying $200 for drive circuits that one's not sure they will work is .. eh. not what I would do. I've e-mailed Oskari about it, let's hope he listens. 2001-06-21

spark: Perhaps we could try to make this a PR issue with Maxtor (who now owns the old quantum disk drive line). A suggestions? 2001-06-20

RomanB: Either Me, I'm not a HD specialist, but I know a friend of mine recovered a 8 GB HD, by only replacing the controller on it... it wasn't even from exactly the same type... it was from a 20 GB disk... so if that did work, maybe it will work also on OT's HD... I'm looking in my friends store for that disk... if any happens, you'll get it... 2001-06-19

Welder/Cubeheads: I'm not a HD expert, but as far as i know, the electronics of the Quantum fireball stores valuable information on the media itself (ie. sectors that have been marked "bad" during factory tests) so replacing the electronics itself is not a wise idea... That code only exist on those plates, maybe it would be better to ask for professional assistance.... (yeah, i know it costs more, but then if we want "our" Buzz back, then we should pay the price...) 2001-06-19

MarC: Dont get me wrong, I wish OT all the luck in the world... Its just that all this time he's been trying to find a new HD chip.. he could of put all that energy into re-writing buzz / buzz2 .. I know I would of 2001-06-19

Xion Dust: Actually now I think about it...that was for the harddisk space to store stuff. And I think Im startin to like Buzzmachines anyhow...but it could use a song/template upload section. Later =o] 2001-06-19

Xion Dust: Not to be synical...but if ya have been keeping an eye on jeskola.com....they worked it out, well thats what was on the post section...but the guys who had contacted OT about the prob keep writing posts asking OT whats goin on, so....hmmmmmmmmm???? 2001-06-19

Tim Dorr: I've found some possibilities on eBay. I e-mailed the sellers to get specifics on the model numbers too. 2001-06-19

2ndProcess: I will never again throw away computer hardware :) (no i never had one of those) 2001-06-18

squish: Good luck man!!! 2001-06-18
